How to play

  1. Set a safe free-kick line and use cones, bags, or mannequins as the wall.
  2. Mark 3 to 5 target zones in or around the goal.
  3. Players must hit the zones in order, starting with the easiest target.
  4. A shot counts when it clears or bends around the wall marker and reaches the called zone.
  5. After a successful shot, the player moves to the next target or backs the line up one step.
  6. First player to clear the full ladder wins.

What counts?

A result counts when it matches the main rule: Free-Kick Wall Target Ladder: clear marked free-kick targets in order. First through the ladder wins. Use this scoring agreement for close calls: clear every target in order. Do not count attempts that break the setup, happen outside the agreed space, or depend on a call the group cannot agree on.

How to win

Quick mode: clear every target in order. Timed mode: most cleared targets in 7 minutes wins. Group mode: teammates alternate shots and share one ladder position.

Variations

Make it easier

Remove the wall marker or use larger target zones.

Make it harder

Require players to call the target before the shot or use only two attempts per rung.

Game mode setup

Use this as the main activity from Soccer Board. Play for points, bragging rights, or simple rotation first. STUD mode is optional and the activity works without it.

Why it works

The ladder makes free kicks measurable and keeps every shooter moving toward a visible next target.

Safety / fair play

Use a safe space, avoid hard contact or unsafe surfaces, adjust for age and skill, and agree on close calls before the round starts.
