How to play

  1. Start with two doubles teams and at least one waiting player or pair if the group is larger.
  2. Play a short game to 5 points or use a 5-minute timer.
  3. After each round, split the winning pair and have each winner choose or draw a new partner.
  4. Losing players rotate into the waiting line or split into the next available pairing.
  5. Each player tracks their own round wins, no matter who their partner was.
  6. After 4 to 6 short rounds, the highest individual win total wins the sprint.

What counts?

A result counts when it matches the main rule: Partner Switch Sprint: play to 5, winners split and get new partners, track personal round wins. Use this scoring agreement for close calls: games to 5, win by 1. Do not count attempts that break the setup, happen outside the agreed space, or depend on a call the group cannot agree on.

How to win

Quick mode: games to 5, win by 1. Timed mode: highest score after 5 minutes wins the round. Group mode: rotate after each round so every player or team gets the same number of turns.

Variations

Make it easier

Let stronger players pair with newer players for the first two rounds.

Make it harder

Winners of each round must start the next round down 0-2 with their new partners.

Game mode setup

Use this as the main activity from Pickleball Board. Play for points, bragging rights, or simple rotation first. STUD mode is optional and the activity works without it.

Why it works

It keeps open play social, breaks up stacked teams, and gives every player a reason to care about each short round.

Safety / fair play

Use a safe space, avoid hard contact or unsafe surfaces, adjust for age and skill, and agree on close calls before the round starts.
