How to play

  1. Build 3 safe gates using cups, sticky notes, tape marks, folders, or other office-safe props.
  2. Mark one rolling line and keep the lane clear of people, screens, glass, and walkways.
  3. Players roll a soft ball through the gates in order.
  4. A missed gate sends the player back to the previous gate.
  5. Track either fastest clean run or fewest rolls through all 3 gates.
  6. The final gate must be cleared from the far mark.

What counts?

A result counts when it matches the main rule: Office Gate Roll Run: set 3 safe gates, roll through them in order, miss sends you back one. Fastest clean run wins. Use this scoring agreement for close calls: fastest clean run wins. Do not count attempts that break the setup, happen outside the agreed space, or depend on a call the group cannot agree on.

How to win

Quick mode: fastest clean run wins. Timed mode: play a 10-20 min round and count the score when time expires. Group mode: teammates alternate gates and share one combined time.

Variations

Make it easier

Use wider gates, a shorter lane, or let a missed gate replay from the same spot.

Make it harder

Narrow the final gate or require the last roll to be called before release.

Game mode setup

Use this as the main activity from Desk Break Board. Play for points, bragging rights, or simple rotation first. STUD mode is optional and the activity works without it.

Why it works

The gates make the challenge visible right away, and rolling keeps the work break safer than throwing or running.

Safety / fair play

Use a safe space, avoid hard contact or unsafe surfaces, adjust for age and skill, and agree on close calls before the round starts.
