How to play

  1. Set the cornhole boards closer than normal so the group can throw safely and consistently.
  2. Stand behind the agreed throw line and keep spectators outside the lane.
  3. Use normal cancellation scoring unless the group chooses a quicker mode.
  4. A bag on the board is worth 1 point and a bag in the hole is worth 3 points.
  5. Any bag thrown past the far board without touching it gives the other side 1 bonus point.
  6. First player or team to 15 wins, or play a timed round and compare totals.

What counts?

A result counts when it matches the main rule: Short-Board Bags: closer cornhole setup, board = 1, hole = 3, overthrows past the far board give the other side 1. Use this scoring agreement for close calls: normal cancellation scoring to 15. Do not count attempts that break the setup, happen outside the agreed space, or depend on a call the group cannot agree on.

How to win

Quick mode: normal cancellation scoring to 15. Timed mode: highest total after 10 minutes wins. Group mode: rotate after each round so every player or team gets the same number of turns.

Variations

Make it easier

Move the boards even closer or count a safe front-edge touch as 1 point.

Make it harder

After a team reaches 10, they must call board or hole before each throw for the throw to score.

Game mode setup

Use this as the main activity from Yard Games Board. Play for points, bragging rights, or simple rotation first. STUD mode is optional and the activity works without it.

Why it works

Shortening the lane keeps more throws in play, which makes cornhole more fun for mixed groups without changing the equipment.

Safety / fair play

Use a safe space, avoid hard contact or unsafe surfaces, adjust for age and skill, and agree on close calls before the round starts.
