How to play

  1. Set 10 lightweight cups on a clear break-room or conference table.
  2. Mark one start spot for the stack and keep drinks, laptops, glass, and walkways away from the play area.
  3. Each player starts with the cups nested in one stack.
  4. On go, build a 4-3-2-1 pyramid, then down-stack it back into one clean stack.
  5. A tipped cup, skipped layer, or cup touched out of order means the player restarts from the nested stack.
  6. Fastest clean run wins, or run teams with partners alternating build and down-stack duties.

What counts?

A result counts when it matches the main rule: Cup Stack Tower: build a 10-cup pyramid, down-stack it cleanly, fastest clean run wins. Use this scoring agreement for close calls: fastest clean build-and-down-stack run wins. Do not count attempts that break the setup, happen outside the agreed space, or depend on a call the group cannot agree on.

How to win

Quick mode: fastest clean build-and-down-stack run wins. Timed mode: play a 10-20 min round and count the score when time expires. Group mode: partners alternate the build and down-stack for one combined time.

Variations

Make it easier

Start with 6 cups or allow one quick cup reset without restarting the whole run.

Make it harder

Require the final down-stack to be one-hand only or add a second pyramid before the clock stops.

Game mode setup

Use this as the main activity from Desk Break Board. Play for points, bragging rights, or simple rotation first. STUD mode is optional and the activity works without it.

Why it works

The cup tower gives the room a clear visual target, rewards calm hands, and stays contained to one table.

Safety / fair play

Use a safe space, avoid hard contact or unsafe surfaces, adjust for age and skill, and agree on close calls before the round starts.
