How to play

  1. Choose one safe loop near a park, neighborhood route, or coffee-shop meeting point.
  2. Agree on a social target split before the start.
  3. Run or walk the first part at conversation pace and let everyone check pace normally.
  4. For the final segment, no one checks a watch or phone.
  5. Each player locks their pace by feel and finishes the loop.
  6. Closest finish to the target split wins the round.

What counts?

A result counts when it matches the main rule: Coffee Loop Split Lock: choose a safe loop, call a target split, no checks on the final segment. Closest finish wins. Use this scoring agreement for close calls: smallest time difference from the target wins. Do not count attempts that break the setup, happen outside the agreed space, or depend on a call the group cannot agree on.

How to win

Quick mode: smallest time difference from the target wins. Timed mode: play a 15-40 min round and count the score when time expires. Group mode: pair runners and add both split differences together.

Variations

Make it easier

Use a walk version, a shorter loop, or a wider target window for mixed-pace groups.

Make it harder

Hide pace for the whole loop or require each player to call their finish window before starting.

Game mode setup

Use this as the main activity from Run Club Board. Play for points, bragging rights, or simple rotation first. STUD mode is optional and the activity works without it.

Why it works

It makes a normal social loop feel like a game of pace feel, not just a fastest-runner contest.

Safety / fair play

Use a safe space, avoid hard contact or unsafe surfaces, adjust for age and skill, and agree on close calls before the round starts.
