Negative Split Race
How to play
- Choose a safe loop, track lane, or path segment that can be completed twice without traffic crossings.
- Set a comfortable effort range before starting and allow a walk version for mixed-pace groups.
- Everyone completes loop 1 at a steady pace and records the time.
- Everyone completes loop 2 on the same route and tries to finish slightly faster than loop 1.
- A player must finish loop 2 faster than loop 1 to be eligible for the round result.
- Among eligible players, lowest combined time wins; missed negative splits add the agreed penalty only for scoring.
What counts?
A result counts when it matches the main rule: Negative Split Race: two equal safe loops, loop 2 must be faster than loop 1. Lowest clean combined time wins. Use this scoring agreement for close calls: lowest combined time wins only if loop 2 is faster. Do not count attempts that break the setup, happen outside the agreed space, or depend on a call the group cannot agree on.
How to win
Quick mode: lowest combined time wins only if loop 2 is faster. Timed mode: play a 15-40 min round and count the score when time expires. Group mode: pair fast and easy-pace runners and add their combined time differences.
