How to play

  1. Choose two safe landmarks such as a bridge and bench, keeping the path clear of traffic and crowded crossings.
  2. Split into teams and assign each teammate one leg between the landmarks.
  3. Before starting, agree whether the round is run, jog, walk, or mixed-pace.
  4. The first teammate moves from landmark A to landmark B and tags the next teammate with a clear handoff.
  5. Each teammate completes one leg before anyone repeats.
  6. Fastest clean team time wins; missed handoffs or unsafe shortcuts require a restart from the last landmark.

What counts?

A result counts when it matches the main rule: Bridge-to-Bench Relay: two safe landmarks, one leg per teammate, clean handoffs. Fastest clean team wins. Use this scoring agreement for close calls: fastest clean team time wins. Do not count attempts that break the setup, happen outside the agreed space, or depend on a call the group cannot agree on.

How to win

Quick mode: fastest clean team time wins. Timed mode: play a 15-40 min round and count the score when time expires. Group mode: fastest clean team time wins.

  • Consistency mode: teams win by finishing closest to their called total time.
  • Walk-run mode: teams get 1 point for every clean leg and use total time only as a tiebreaker.

Variations

Make it easier

Use a shorter landmark gap, walk every leg, or let teams choose their own order.

Make it harder

Require each runner to call the handoff point before leaving the start landmark.

Game mode setup

Use this as the main activity from Run Club Board. Play for points, bragging rights, or simple rotation first. STUD mode is optional and the activity works without it.

Why it works

The two landmarks make the route easy to understand, and the relay format turns a normal path into a team game.

Safety / fair play

Use a safe space, avoid hard contact or unsafe surfaces, adjust for age and skill, and agree on close calls before the round starts.
