How to play

  1. Choose a safe track lane, park loop, or wide path with a clear finish mark and no traffic crossings.
  2. Agree on a social pace for the loop and a controlled stride count for the final section.
  3. Players complete the loop together or in small waves at the agreed effort.
  4. At the stride marker, each player finishes with the called number of smooth strides.
  5. No all-out sprinting, crowding, blocked vision, or cutting across another runner's lane.
  6. Closest legal finish to the mark after the called stride count wins the round.

What counts?

A result counts when it matches the main rule: Called Stride Finish: safe loop, called final stride count, closest legal finish wins. Keep it controlled. Use this scoring agreement for close calls: nearest legal finish to the mark wins. Do not count attempts that break the setup, happen outside the agreed space, or depend on a call the group cannot agree on.

How to win

Quick mode: nearest legal finish to the mark wins. Timed mode: play a 15-40 min round and count the score when time expires. Group mode: pair runners and add both finish distances together.

Variations

Make it easier

Use a walk version, a shorter final section, or a larger finish zone.

Make it harder

Change the stride count halfway through the loop or hide the finish zone until the final segment.

Game mode setup

Use this as the main activity from Run Club Board. Play for points, bragging rights, or simple rotation. This activity is for points or bragging rights only. STUD mode is not recommended for this format.

Why it works

It makes the finish playful without turning the whole route into a sprint, and newer runners can compete through rhythm.

Safety / fair play

Use a safe space, avoid hard contact or unsafe surfaces, adjust for age and skill, and agree on close calls before the round starts.
