Interrupt the scroll and reclaim the moment
You opened the phone for a moment. Now you have a choice about the next one. Put it down and look at what is around you: someone to talk with, somewhere to walk, something to make. Let this moment contain an experience you deliberately chose to have.
Sometimes entertainment is exactly how you want to spend your time. Enjoy it deliberately. Other times you look up from the screen and realize you have been moving through content without choosing much at all. That moment of noticing matters. It gives you an opening to decide what you actually want the next part of your day to contain.
Ask a direct question: what did I want from this break? Rest? A laugh? Contact with someone? A way to avoid a demanding task? An honest answer helps you choose a better next step. You might send a real message to a friend, take a quiet break, or return to the task after deciding where to begin.
Make the choice physical. Close the app. Stand up if you can. Put the device in a place where reaching for it takes a deliberate decision. Then enter the experience you selected. Give a conversation your attention. Make the meal. Open the book you wanted to read. Let the change become something you are doing, rather than another intention floating above the same screen.
You can make this choice again whenever you notice the pattern. No dramatic pledge to abandon technology is required. You are learning to recognize the difference between enjoying a chosen activity and being carried through one. There is a life immediately around you with people, places and possibilities worth engaging. Give part of today your direct participation. Choose an experience and be there for it.
Close the feed. Choose what happens next.
