CE-123 is an experimental modafinil relative discussed for wakefulness, motivation and focus. Reports range from a useful mental lift to ordinary modafinil-like effects or restless task-switching. Feeling more activated does not necessarily mean getting useful work done.

What it is and why people discuss it

  • A research compound targeting dopamine transport. CE-123 is a non-peptide compound investigated for blocking the dopamine transporter, which helps clear dopamine between nerve cells. This laboratory mechanism explains the interest in cognition; it does not establish a human benefit. Animal context
  • The S-form matters. (S)-CE-123 and S-CE-123 identify one mirror-image form. The unqualified name CE-123 does not confirm whether a product contains that form or a mixture. The papers and the forum products cannot automatically be treated as the same material. Animal context Community guide
  • Modafinil is the useful comparison. It is the familiar reference in these accounts, alongside armodafinil, flmodafinil and fladrafinil. CE-123 is a distinct compound; their amounts, effects and prescribing information do not transfer to it. The didesoxymodafinil thread also contains CE-123 replies, but its title is not a CE-123 alias. Personal report Personal report Animal context

Benefits people seek and report

  • Wakefulness, sometimes with less anxiety. One poster describes mainly wakefulness with less anxiety at 80–100 mg. Others find little advantage over modafinil or its fluorinated relatives. These comparisons are subjective and uncontrolled. Personal report
  • Motivation can separate from concentration. A direct account describes wanting to act but repeatedly wanting to leave the task at hand. That is a practical counterpoint to the idea that a stronger push necessarily improves focus. Personal report

Doses people discuss

mg means milligrams. No dependable common dose emerged from these reports, and missing route or product details remain missing.

  • 50 mg and 90 mg: separate early reports. These amounts come from two different posters. Neither states route, formulation or frequency; they cannot be turned into a daily range. Personal report
  • 80–100 mg, 100 mg then 200 mg, and 300–400 mg appear in other accounts. These are separate experiences, not steps in a dosing plan. The 300–400 mg account explicitly reports very high stimulant tolerance. Routes and daily totals are unstated. Personal report
  • A powder log reaches 400 mg, with important limitations. The writer claims 50 mg initially, 100 mg after a few days, 200 mg on day 8 and a single 400 mg trial on day 10. It is an unverified high-tolerance account, not a safe ceiling or a routine to follow. Personal report

Half-life

  • A circulated 2–4-hour estimate is a guess. A commenter who has never taken CE-123 extrapolates from an isolated-liver experiment. This does not establish a human elimination half-life. The original measurement is explained separately below. Reddit

Onset: when people notice it

  • Rapid in one account; no reliable minute count. The activation report describes a quick arrival without a clock time, dose or route. A precise onset window cannot be recovered from that description. Personal report

Duration: how long people feel it

  • 2–2.5 hours of productive mood versus effects still present at 10 hours. The first report concerns 90 mg; the second concerns 50 mg and only says the person was still off baseline. These are different endpoints, not a usable 2–10-hour range. Personal report
  • One poster revised 3–4 hours down to 1–2 hours. Millon1000 initially described a few days of trials, with residual effects beyond the main window. A later reply shortened the estimate. That revision is part of one changing account, not a second person’s corroboration. Personal report
  • Other short reports coexist with a six-hour claim. One poster describes 60–90 minutes at about 100 mg. Another comment asserts around six hours without a personal dose or route. Neither proves predictable coverage or that late use will spare sleep. Personal report Reddit

Cycles and time off

  • Brief trials do not establish a cycle. The multi-day log names days 8 and 10 and suggests breaks every few days. It does not document taking those breaks or show that they prevent tolerance. A tested course length, break length and long-term pattern remain unknown. Personal report

What can make the experience worse

  • Stimulation can interfere with the work it was meant to help. The task-switching account did not get a caffeine-like mood lift. The writer planned a caffeine-free retry but did not report its outcome; that leaves co-use unresolved rather than proving a caffeine interaction. Personal report
  • Pleasant effects can still pull attention elsewhere. At the largest amount in the powder log, the author describes spending an hour or two on an unplanned leisure outing. A reply questions the post’s AI-like style, and private source invitations further limit confidence in its independence. Personal report
  • Urine odor is reported; its meaning is unknown. A separate 100 mg account describes a 2–3-hour cognitive lift but odor lasting 12 hours. Smell cannot establish how long useful effects last, how quickly the drug clears or whether it is safe. Personal report
  • Selective does not mean safe or interaction-free. Laboratory work found inhibition of drug-metabolizing enzymes, notably CYP2C8. Human relevance is unquantified. These accounts cannot estimate cardiovascular, psychiatric or long-term risks, and structural similarity does not establish modafinil’s safety profile for CE-123. Animal context

What the laboratory findings can tell us

  • 39 minutes describes an isolated liver preparation. The 2023 study measured that half-life for S-CE-123 in human liver microsomes: an in-vitro system, not volunteers. Its brain-distribution experiment used rats. Neither result supplies a human felt-duration or bodily-half-life value. Animal context
  • Improved rule-switching was demonstrated in rats. The 2017 study found an effect on cognitive flexibility without increased impulsive responding in its tests. It supports further investigation, not a promise of human focus, memory or freedom from overstimulation. Animal context

What the accounts add

  • The same person’s view can change. Millon1000 first describes weak effects near 200 mg, then reports a useful two-hour boost around 75 mg after trials of 50–150 mg. The material’s form is assumed, not verified. The later 100 mg, 60–90-minute complaint is from the same handle. These are changing accounts, not three independent confirmations. Personal report Personal report
  • A short lift can be useful without covering a workday. downlow1234 thought the brief effect might have a place despite being surprised by it. That tentative preference differs from Millon1000’s later disappointment about how little useful time the compound provided. Personal report Personal report
  • Little extra benefit is different from no effect. The deleted high-tolerance poster calls it unremarkable compared with flmodafinil/fladrafinil, rather than inactive. The original questioner later reports similar or weaker effects than their usual 300–400 mg modafinil, an unequal-amount comparison. Both limit superiority claims. Personal report
  • Potency guesses leave the central question open. The claim that CE-123 is 75% as potent as armodafinil arrives secondhand in a request for guidance. It is not a measured conversion. Product identity, tolerance, sleep and co-use remain unresolved across these reports. Reddit Personal report
