1 Corinthians 2:6–16
The Spirit Reveals God's Cruciform Wisdom
Mature wisdom is the cross the rulers missed.
Paul does speak wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of its rulers, who are passing away. God's hidden wisdom, decreed before the ages for our glory, is the Lord of glory whom those rulers crucified. The Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God, and gives what no eye has seen so that the community may understand the gifts freely given.
The person without the Spirit does not welcome these things; they are folly to him. That contrast is about receiving cruciform wisdom, not about creating a spiritual elite who may silence questions or bypass evidence. Having the mind of Christ means seeing as people taught by the Spirit, not as people too initiated to be asked why.
How this should shape us
Let the Spirit open what prestige cannot grade, and keep the questions in the room. If a group uses 'spiritual' to end an honest inquiry, they have left this chapter's wisdom.
