Timothy's Good News Turns Distress into Joy and Further Prayer
Their standing comforts the team and still leaves room to grow.
Timotheus returns with good tidings of their faith and charity, and that they have good remembrance of the team and desire to see them. In the missionaries' own affliction and distress, this comforts them. Now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord is relief, not a bill the church must pay to keep a leader emotionally alive.
Night and day they pray exceedingly that they might see the church's face and perfect that which is lacking in their faith. Lack here means remaining formation, not a verdict that the report was fake. Joy is returned to God rather than spent as self-congratulation.

Tell a community what is flourishing and what still needs support without implying that a setback would betray you personally. Receive encouragement from those you serve, and let thanks to God, not panic, shape the next visit.
