Sexual Holiness Requires Honor, Self-Governance, and No Exploitation
Holiness governs desire so that no one is used.
This is the will of God, even your sanctification: that ye should abstain from fornication. Every one is to know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour, not in the lust of concupiscence as the Gentiles which know not God. Vessel may mean one's body or a wife; neither reading turns a person into an object. The unit addresses conduct and exploitation, not shame about bodies, desire, singleness, marriage, infertility, or survivors.
No one is to go beyond and defraud his brother in the matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such. God has not called them unto uncleanness, but unto holiness; he that despises, despises not man but God, who has also given unto them his holy Spirit. Boundary-crossing and another person's harm sit inside sexual ethics. This is not coercive purity culture, forced disclosure, marital entitlement, victim-blaming, or contempt for outsiders. The Lord's vengeance is not a warrant for human shaming or violence.
How this should shape us
Teach consent, fidelity, and power. Prohibit spiritual authority from buying access or silence. Provide independent reporting and survivor-centered help. Distinguish the text's words from later rule catalogs, and get qualified help where coercion is present.

Best judgment: Major alternatives take vessel as body/self-control or wife/acquiring a wife, verse 6 as sexual exploitation or commercial fraud, and porneia as broad sexual misconduct with disputed ancient boundaries. The preferred reading keeps 3-8 as one sexual-holiness unit and makes non-exploitation central, while stating the lexical limits.
