Share Suffering and Guard the Entrusted Good
Share the gospel's cost by God's power, not by staying where you are harmed
Timothy is told not to be ashamed of the Lord's testimony or of Paul the prisoner, but to share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God. That God saved and called with a holy calling, not according to works but according to purpose and grace given in Christ before the ages, now made visible by the appearing of our Savior, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
Paul is appointed preacher, apostle, and teacher; that is why he suffers, and he is not ashamed, because he knows whom he has believed. Hold the pattern of sound words in faith and love in Christ Jesus, and guard the good deposit through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. Sharing suffering means loyalty to that gospel when it costs reputation or comfort. It does not require creating danger, remaining in abuse, hiding crimes, or refusing medical and legal help.
How this should shape us
When loyalty to Jesus costs you status or ease, do not hide him. Hold the pattern you were taught, and ask the Spirit to keep it. If a leader quotes this unit to keep you in harm, that is not gospel suffering. Leave, tell the truth, and get the help you need.
