Sacred Writings Form and Equip God's Servant
Sacred writings equip a servant; they are not a club for the already bruised
Continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the person of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Profit here is formation: wisdom that leads to salvation in Christ, then a servant ready for good work. Scripture is not a weapon to beat the vulnerable, not a tool to crush a questioning child, and not a license to pile shame on people already laden with grief. Verse 16 does not provide a table of contents for the later Christian canon or settle every disputed book. The childhood writings Timothy knew were Israel's Scriptures; their use is to make wise for salvation through faith in Christ, then to equip.
How this should shape us
Stay with the writings and the teachers that actually made Christ clear to you. Use Scripture to teach, to set right, and to train yourself for good work. If a verse is being used to trap, silence, or punish someone who cannot defend themselves, you are not doing what this unit calls profitable.
