Poured Out, Departing, and Awaiting the Crown
A poured-out life waits for a crown; it does not seek a grave
Paul is already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of his departure is at hand. He has fought the good fight, finished the race, kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for him the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award on that day — and not only to him, but also to all who have loved his appearing.
The offering image interprets a life spent and a death approaching. It does not authorize suicide, self-harm, martyrdom-seeking, or leaders sacrificing other people. The crown is the Lord's gift to those who love Christ's appearing, not a prize for the most damaged.
How this should shape us
Spend what you have on finished faithfulness, not on a dramatic exit. Love Christ's appearing by keeping the faith you were given. If death-talk in ministry is starting to sound like a dare, this unit is not on your side; get help and stay alive.
