Wilderness Worship Questioned and Exile Announced

Did you bring sacrifices those forty years?

A rhetorical question asks whether Israel brought sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years. Pentateuchal texts do narrate wilderness sacrifice, so the question may contrast then and now, expose deficient worship, or participate in a disputed tradition. It unsettles confidence that sacrifice alone defined faithfulness.

The hearers have just been told their present feasts are hated. The wilderness question pushes the problem back into divided allegiance, not into a claim that Jewish worship was always false.

Moloch, Chiun, and captivity beyond Damascus

They have borne the tabernacle of their Moloch and Chiun, images and a star of their god which they made. The names and vowels are difficult. Many translations read Sikkuth and Kiyyun; Acts 7 follows Greek forms including Remphan. No modern logo, ethnicity, technology, conspiracy, or political movement should be built on these disputed terms.

Therefore the LORD will cause them to go into captivity beyond Damascus. The destination is nonspecific. The sentence is exile under the LORD God of hosts, not a permit for forced migration or ethnic cleansing.
