Daniel 6:16-18
Den, Seal, and the King's Vigil
The den is sealed, and the king spends a fasting night
The king commands, and they bring Daniel and cast him into the den of lions. The king says, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee. A stone is brought and laid upon the mouth of the den; the king seals it with his own signet and with the signet of his lords, that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
The king goes to his palace and passes the night fasting; neither instruments of music are brought before him, and his sleep goes from him. The sentence is real. Hope in the king's mouth does not yet undo the seal. This night is not already a proverb that the faithful never die.
How this should shape us
Stay awake with people under an unjust law. A fasting vigil is more honest than a slogan that God always stops the lions before the stone is set.
