Daniel 6:25-28
Darius Praises the Living God
Darius writes that the living God rescued Daniel, and the Judean continues
Darius writes unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth: peace be multiplied. He makes a decree that in every dominion of his kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end. He delivers and rescues, works signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, and has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.
So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian. The praise is true to the rescue. The decree does not authorize governments to compel religious fear. Daniel still prospers as the same Judean the book has refused to erase.
How this should shape us
Tell the nations that God lives and can rescue. Do not turn a royal command to tremble into a warrant for compelled religion, and do not tell Daniel's endurance as anything but a Judean's faithfulness in a Gentile court.
