Ecclesiastes 2:18-23
Labor Passes to an Unknown Heir
The heir you cannot choose
He hates all his labor because he must leave it to a man who will come after him, who may be wise or a fool. This also is vanity and a great evil. His days are sorrows, his nights take no rest.
The ache is not only greed. It is the loss of control over what a life of work becomes in another pair of hands.
How this should shape us
Build and give without pretending you will supervise the future. Inheritance is not a moral guarantee, and sleeplessness over it is not a duty.
