Ecclesiastes 5:10-12
Silver Does Not Satisfy
He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied
He that loves silver shall not be satisfied with silver, nor he that loves abundance with increase. When goods increase, they are increased that eat them. The sleep of a labouring man is sweet; the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.
The contrast is appetite and rest, not contempt for every wealthy person or romance of every laborer's night.
How this should shape us
Notice whether increase buys sleep or only more eaters. Do not preach this as a curse on wages, and do not envy insomnia.
