Veil and Screen Order Degrees of Access
A cherubim veil divides holy from most holy
A veil of blue, purple, scarlet, and fine linen, with cherubim, hangs on four gold-overlaid acacia pillars with gold hooks on silver sockets. Hung under the taches, it lets the ark of the testimony be brought within. The veil divides the holy place from the most holy. The mercy seat is put on the ark in the most holy place.

The table stands without the veil, the lampstand opposite the table on the south, the table on the north. For the tent door, a hanging of blue, purple, scarlet, and fine linen, embroidered, on five pillars with gold hooks and sockets of brass.
Access is graded: court, holy place, most holy place. Furniture is placed by that division. The veil is not a prop for later readers to tear in their own drama; in Exodus it is the commanded boundary around the ark.
How this should shape us
Name who may go where, and why. Do not flatten every later doorway into this veil, and do not use restricted access to humiliate people when the text is ordering a meeting-place, not creating a caste of spectators.
