Ezekiel 2:1–5
The Spirit Raises the Son of Man for a Resistant Audience
Son of man names a mortal, not a title to seize
He said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee. The Spirit enters into him when God speaks, and sets him upon his feet. Address and raising belong together.
He is sent to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against the LORD, they and their fathers. Impudent children and stiffhearted: he is sent unto them, whether they will hear or whether they will forbear.
They shall know that a prophet has been among them
Success is not defined as agreement. A people may refuse and still have had a prophet among them. The commission is speech toward rebels, not proof that every opposed speaker is therefore prophetic.
Son of man here is God's address to Ezekiel, a human among humans. It is not a license to contempt Jewish people, and resistance is not a badge that certifies the speaker.
How this should shape us
Receive hard speech as a mortal sent to your own, not as a hero of opposition. Do not wear 'son of man' as a rank, and do not treat Jewish refusal as a slur or as proof that you are a prophet.
