Fire against the South Becomes an Unanswered Parable
Set thy face toward the south
Son of man, set thy face toward the south, and drop thy word toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field. Say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.
And all flesh shall see that I the LORD have kindled it: it shall not be quenched. Then said I, Ah Lord GOD! they say of me, Doth he not speak parables?
An unanswered parable is not a virtue to cultivate
The south-facing fire is the riddle the next chapter will unsheathe as a sword. Green and dry together names totality in the image, not a climate key.
The fire does not authorize arson or automatic climate-disaster judgments, and the complaint does not prove obscurity is a prophetic virtue. Hearers who call it a parable are not thereby stupid; the book itself will interpret.
How this should shape us
If people say you are only telling riddles, interpret. Do not light forests, and do not baptize a drought or a firestorm as this south wind.
