Ezekiel 25:15–17
Philistine Revenge Is Answered with Divine Vengeance
Philistia's old hatred is answered with a great rebuke
The Philistines dealt by revenge, and took vengeance with a despiteful heart, to destroy it for the old hatred. The oracle hears a long memory, not a sudden incident. Coastal contempt has been waiting for Judah's weakness.
The LORD stretches out his hand, cuts off the Cherethims, and destroys the remnant of the sea coast. He executes great vengeance with furious rebukes, and they shall know that he is the LORD when he lays his vengeance upon them.
Cherethims and the seacoast are not a present people
Ancient Philistines are not modern Palestinians. The names in this unit belong to the old coastal world of Gaza's neighbors, not to a later national identity and not to a propaganda map.
Divine vengeance language here is the book's claim about God answering contempt. It is not a warrant for ethnic violence, civilian targeting, or using Scripture to bless a shoreline war.
How this should shape us
Long grudges that wait for a neighbor's collapse are still grudges. Refuse to baptize them, and refuse to drag these coastal names onto living communities.
