Ezra 5:1–5
Prophets call the builders back to work
Haggai and Zechariah restart builders, not bureaucrats
The prophets Haggai and Zechariah prophesy in the name of the God of Israel over them. Then Zerubbabel and Jeshua rise and begin to build, with the prophets supporting them. The work resumes because of a word, not because a new permit arrived first. Courage here is obedience under unfinished imperial review.
Tattenai watches; God watches the elders
Tattenai governor of Beyond the River, Shethar-bozenai, and their companions ask who gave a decree to build and who the responsible men are. The eye of their God is on the elders, and they are not stopped while a report goes to Darius. Oversight is real. So is a restraint the officials cannot quite explain. Building continues during inquiry.
