- Genesis 44:1–17
Read verses 1–6. The departure creates the appearance that the visit has ended well, but Joseph's hidden instructions turn the journey into a staged pursuit before they are far from the city.
Why It Needs Context
This transition does not show that the brothers know about the cup or that Joseph has finished with them; its role is to create distance before the planned accusation.

Why these verses belong together: Morning release becomes a planned pursuit in which the steward repeats Joseph's charge of repaying good with evil and taking a divination cup.
