Healing, Free Love, Dew, Roots, Shade, Grain, Vine, and Green Tree Answer Return
I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely
I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him. I will be as the dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon. His branches shall spread, and his beauty shall be as the olive tree, and his smell as Lebanon.
The love is nedavah — willing, unbought. It is not paid in horses, tribute, or images. Healing backsliding is healed turning, not a promise of instant cure for illness, trauma, or addiction. Freely given love does not cancel restitution, safety, or survivor boundaries.
A mixed garden, then fruit that is not from idols
They that dwell under his shadow shall return; they shall revive as the corn, and grow as the vine: the scent thereof shall be as the wine of Lebanon. Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From me is thy fruit found.
Lily, Lebanon, olive, grain, vine, wine, and an evergreen are piled on purpose. This is not a botanical code and not a guarantee of wealth, fertility, health, pregnancy, national expansion, or a good harvest for every believer. Verse 8's speakers can be divided more than one way. Idol-renunciation and God as the source of fruit remain the center. Restoration looks like roots, shade, and shared life, not a single bloom.
How this should shape us
Judge recovery by durable safety, mutual provision, and relinquished idols, not by a relaunch. Let the garden stay poetry of communal healing, not a prosperity or fertility contract.
