Near Salvation Answers the Stouthearted
You who are far from righteousness
The address is blunt: listen, you stubborn of heart, who are far from righteousness. Then the surprise: I bring my righteousness near; it is not far off. Salvation will not tarry. Glory will be placed in Zion, for Israel my glory.
Nearness is God's movement, not the community's sudden excellence. People who have every reason to think they have missed the window are told the window is opening from the other side. Zion's glory is God's, which keeps the promise from becoming a civic advertising campaign.
Do not convert 'not far off' into a prosperity clock or an instant cure. Exile's hope is not spent by pointing at one later state. A warranted life is to hear stubbornness named without hearing abandonment, and to let God's near salvation interrupt the story we tell about how far we have drifted.
