Creator and Chosen Agent Call Israel to Hear and Obey
If only you had listened to the commandments
The first and last, who laid earth's foundation, calls Jacob, whom he loves, to assemble and hear. The Lord loves him—the agent sent against Babylon—and the speaker is sent with the Spirit. Then the ache: if you had paid attention, your peace would have been like a river, righteousness like the waves, offspring like sand. The name would not have been cut off.
Lost peace is lament, not a prosperity formula waiting to be reclaimed by better performance. The loved agent is the historical instrument against Babylon, not a modern endorsement. Commandments here are the path of a people who could have had continuity instead of fracture.
Do not turn the sand-offspring image into a demand for instant restoration, and do not treat one later return as the whole hope. A warranted life is to hear the 'if only' as grief that still invites listening, and to seek the river of peace without pretending we can purchase it.
