Jeremiah 32:16–25
Jeremiah's Prayer Holds Creation, Exodus, and Siege Together
After the deeds are given, prayer holds creation, exodus, and the siege mounds together
When Jeremiah had delivered the evidence to Baruch, he prayed: Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee. Mercy to thousands and recompense into the bosom of the children sit beside the God of all flesh.
Signs and wonders in Egypt, the land given with an oath, and this city under mounts and the sword are all in one prayer. Memory is not used to deny the mounds. Faith here talks to God with the contradiction still on the table.
What thou hast said is come to pass, and behold, thou seest it — and thou saidst, Buy the field
The prayer names the Chaldeans, sword, famine, pestilence, and the fulfilled word of disaster. Then it puts the purchase command next to that fulfillment: and thou hast said unto me, O Lord GOD, Buy thee the field for money, and take witnesses; for the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.
Doubt is not suppressed. Military defeat is not treated as a simple faith-meter. Lament inside the prayer is not spiritual failure; it is how the prophet tells the truth in both directions.
How this should shape us
Pray with history, power, and the present ruin in the same breath. You may name the contradiction. Do not call that honesty unbelief, and do not treat a lost battle as the whole measure of a life.
