Jeremiah 35:18–19
The Rechabite Household Receives a Service Promise
Because the house kept Jonadab's charge, a standing before the LORD is promised
Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he hath commanded you:
Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever. Standing before is service-language, a durable place in the LORD's presence.
The promise is particular, not an ethnic ranking or a temperance dogma
The household is honored for keeping the charge they were given. The unit does not create Rechabite superiority, sanctify every custom they held, or justify shaming people who drink wine.
Forever here is the idiom of a lasting role, not a biology of better blood. Other families are not thereby discarded.
How this should shape us
Keep a good inherited discipline without turning it into contempt for everyone else. Service before God is the honor, not a pedigree or an alcohol test for outsiders.
