Jeremiah Exposes the Remnant's Fatal Double-Dealing
The prophet says the request was already a performance
Jeremiah testifies that the LORD has said, Do not go to Egypt. He then accuses them of sending him to pray while intending to disobey. The charge is double-dealing: they wanted a blessing on a decision already made. He concludes that they will die by sword, famine, and pestilence in the place they desire to go.
The accusation belongs to this scene. It is not permission to read minds, shame trauma-driven choices, or deny protection to refugees. People who have just buried a massacre can still be duplicitous, and they can still be terrified. Jeremiah names insincerity. He does not hand later readers a license to treat every fleeing household as a liar.
