Jeremiah 42:7–12
After Ten Days, Staying Is Promised Mercy
Ten days later, remaining is named as the path of mercy
After ten days the word comes. Jeremiah tells the whole remnant: if you will remain in this land, the LORD will build and not pull down, plant and not pluck up, because he relents of the disaster brought. The instruction is for this group in this occupied Judah, not a law that threatened people must stay in every dangerous place.
They are told not to fear the king of Babylon. The LORD will be with them to save and deliver, and will grant them compassion so that the king has compassion and restores them to their soil. That is a promise about this remnant's life in the land, not a claim that empire has become kind, and not a rule against evacuation when God has not said stay.
How this should shape us
Wait for a word that is actually for you. Do not make this remnant's call to remain into a sermon against people who must flee. Mercy here is building and planting among survivors, not a dare to ignore present danger everywhere.
