Elam's Bow Is Broken, Yet Restoration Remains
Elam's bow is broken, then Elam too is promised a turning
In the beginning of Zedekiah's reign, the word concerning Elam: the LORD will break Elam's bow, the mainstay of their might, and bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, scattering them. There will be no nation to which Elam's outcasts do not come. The LORD will shatter them before their enemies and set his throne in Elam, destroying king and officials.
Yet in the latter days he will restore the fortunes of Elam. Elam is not a code for modern Iran, and the four winds are not a current war timetable. Scattering and restoration sit in the same short oracle. A divine throne in Elam is not a charter for occupying Persia. The last line again refuses annihilation as the end of the story.
How this should shape us
Do not aim Elam at Tehran or any living nation. Hold the broken bow and the promised turning together. God can judge a distant people without handing you their map.
