Jeremiah 51:27–33
Nations Prepare as Daughter Babylon Becomes a Threshing Floor
Standards go up, and daughter Babylon is a threshing floor about to be trodden
Set up a standard on the earth, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations for war against her. Summon Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz. Appoint a marshal; bring up horses like bristling locusts. Prepare the kings of the Medes and their governors. The land trembles because the LORD's purposes against Babylon stand, to make the land a desolation without inhabitant.
Babylon's warriors have ceased to fight; they remain in their strongholds; their strength has dried up; they have become women — again a fear image, not a license to demean women. Her bars are broken, her passages seized, the palace in panic. Daughter Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time when it is trodden; yet a little while and the time of her harvest will come. Named ancient peoples and harvest violence are not a modern military map and not permission to harm civilians.
How this should shape us
Do not recruit Ararat or the Medes as a present alliance. Threshing is a poem about reversal, not a method. Keep women out of your insults, and keep civilians off your threshing floor.
