Job 19:1–19:7
Job Protests Repeated Shaming and Cries Wrong
Job asks how long the crushing by words will last
Then Job answered. How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words? These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me. And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself.
He cries wrong, and he gets no answer
If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach: know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net. Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.
The cry deserves hearing even where its theology is debated. It does not authorize supporters to invent facts or to promise an outcome. Reproach repeated ten times is already a form of violence.
How this should shape us
Stop the pile of words. If a person cries wrong, listen before you plead their reproach against them. Do not magnify yourself on a net you did not suffer.
