Luke 12:54–12:59
Discern the Present and Seek Settlement
They can read clouds and wind, yet miss the present crisis
He says to the crowds that when they see a cloud rising in the west, they say a shower is coming, and so it happens. When a south wind blows, they say there will be heat, and it happens. Hypocrites: they know how to interpret the face of earth and sky, but they do not know how to interpret this present time. Why do they not judge for themselves what is right?
As they go with an accuser to a magistrate, they should make an effort to settle on the way, lest they be dragged to the judge, the judge to the officer, and the officer to prison. They will not get out until they have paid the last mite. The legal image urges urgent reconciliation under coming judgment. It does not provide a universal rule for criminal cases, ongoing abuse, or situations where private settlement would hide harm. Weather-wisdom without moral sight is the charge.

Use the same intelligence you already spend on forecasts on the crisis in front of you. Settle what can honestly be settled before it hardens into a judgment you cannot manage. Do not use this road-to-court picture to silence a victim, bury a crime, or demand a private deal that protects an abuser.
