Luke 21:10–21:19
Pressure Becomes Occasion for Testimony and Endurance
They will be handed over, and endurance is how life is kept
Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. Earthquakes, famines, pestilences, fearful sights, and great signs from heaven are named. But before all these they shall lay their hands on you, persecute you, deliver you up to synagogues and prisons, and bring you before kings and rulers for my name's sake. It shall turn to you for a testimony. Settle it therefore in your hearts not to meditate before what ye shall answer, for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.
Ye shall be betrayed both by parents, brethren, kinsfolks, and friends; some of you shall they cause to be put to death. Ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake. But there shall not an hair of your head perish. In your patience possess ye your souls. The speech prepares witnesses under pressure; it does not promise bodily immunity, because some are killed. Spirit-given speech in the hour of arrest is not a ban on ordinary preparation in every other setting. Family betrayal is named as a cost, not as a command to distrust your household in advance.
How this should shape us
When pressure comes for his name, tell the truth you are given rather than polishing a performance, and measure life by endurance rather than by whether the body is spared. Do not treat every hard week as this scene, and do not promise anyone that faith makes them unkillable.
