Mark 3:31-35
Doing God's Will Defines Jesus' Family
The circle that does God's will is called family
Jesus' mother and brothers stand outside and send for him. The crowd seated around him reports it. He asks who his mother and brothers are, looks at those sitting around him, and says they are his mother and brothers. Whoever does the will of God is brother and sister and mother to him.
Kinship widens around obedience. It does not erase Mary or his siblings, and it does not demean them. Spiritual family is not a charter for cultic isolation from relatives, friends, or support networks. Doing God's will does not make leaders entitled to replace parents or spouses. The people inside the house are defined by response, not by blood alone, and not by a group's demand that you cut safe ties.
How this should shape us
Let shared obedience make a wide family around Jesus, without using "spiritual family" to isolate anyone from relatives or help. Honor mothers, brothers, and sisters in the flesh; do not let a leader claim their place.

Best judgment: The scene expands kinship around obedience but does not erase Jesus' biological family or authorize religious groups to isolate members from safe relationships.
