Matthew 11:25–11:30, King James Version

Matthew 11:25–11:30

The Son reveals the Father and offers rest

A yoke that actually fits

Jesus thanks the Father that these things are hidden from the wise and intelligent and revealed to infants. All things have been handed over to him. No one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. The reversal does not celebrate ignorance.

Come, all who are weary and carrying heavy burdens. The yoke is easy, the burden light, because he is gentle and humble in heart. Rest is apprenticeship, not a nap that ignores the world, not leader domination, and not a promise of effortless days. A yoke still steers; it just stops gouging the neck.

How this should shape us

If religion has become a pack that does not fit, come as you are and take his teaching pace. Rest by walking with him, not by abandoning every obligation. Put down the performance yoke. Keep the work of love, at a gait a tired person can survive, and do not load exhausted people with more religious tasks as proof they came.
