Matthew 15:10–15:20
Defilement flows from harmful human action
What comes out of the mouth can defile
Jesus tells the crowd that what enters the mouth does not defile a person; what exits does. Disciples report that Pharisees took offense. He speaks of plants the Father did not plant and of blind guides. Privately he explains to Peter: food passes through the body. Evils listed from the heart do the real damage.
Matthew's punch line is eating with unwashed hands, not a declaration that every Torah food distinction is abolished. The plant and guide sayings target those leaders in the scene. They do not license mockery of disability, and they do not turn a people into a weed to be pulled.
How this should shape us
Watch what leaves your mouth: contempt, lies, greed, and the will to harm. Scrubbing a ritual while practicing those things is not purity. Do not use this teaching to sneer at Jewish food practice or to call neighbors blind as an insult.
