Matthew 18:10–18:14
The Father refuses contempt for a wandering little one
Do not despise the one who wandered
Jesus forbids looking down on these little ones. Their angels in heaven look on the Father's face. A shepherd leaves ninety-nine on the hills and seeks the one that wandered. Joy at finding that one outweighs the ninety-nine that did not stray. The Father is not willing that one of these little ones perish. Verse 11 is missing from many manuscripts.
Guardian-angel theories go beyond the verse. The shepherd image is restorative pursuit. It does not override consent, drag someone home against their safety, or treat the ninety-nine as worthless. Seeking is not stalking.
How this should shape us
Go after the person who drifted without humiliating them or the ones who stayed. Contempt for the small is already a theological error. Seek repair, and stop if pursuit itself becomes a threat.
