Matthew 24:3–24:14
Jesus warns that turmoil is not yet the end
Wars and rumors are not a countdown clock
On the Mount of Olives the disciples ask privately about the temple, Jesus' coming, and the completion of the age. He warns them not to be deceived: many will come in his name. They will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; the end is not yet. Nation against nation, famines and earthquakes are the beginning of birth pangs. Then come handing over, hatred, betrayal, false prophets, and love grown cold. The one who endures to the end will be saved. This good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the world as a testimony to the nations, and then the end will come.
Near and wider horizons are braided. Turmoil is named so that disciples will not mistake it for the finale. Nation-language here is not a decoder ring for this week's headlines. Endurance and witness, not panic mapping, are the charge.
How this should shape us
When the news is full of war, disaster, and religious fraud, refuse both denial and date-setting. Keep love from going cold. Tell the kingdom's news without turning every conflict into proof that you have cracked the calendar.
