Matthew 24:45–24:51
A delayed master exposes servant character
Delay shows whether the steward feeds or beats
Who is the faithful and wise servant the master sets over the household to give food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant found doing so when the master comes. But if the servant says, My master is delayed, and beats fellow servants and eats and drinks with drunkards, the master will come on a day he does not expect. The judgment image is severe: cut in two, a place with hypocrites, weeping and gnashing of teeth.
The parable is about entrusted care under delay. The violent image warns the unfaithful steward; it is not permission for leaders to punish workers or for institutions to hide abuse. Feeding the household is the job. Exploiting the wait is the crime.
How this should shape us
If people eat because of you, keep feeding them while you wait. Do not use a slow season as cover to bully staff, family, or volunteers. The delay is the test, not the excuse.
