Micah 3:5-8
Paid Peace Meets Spirit-Empowered Indictment
Peace is sold; war is consecrated against the unpaid
The prophets who make the people err bite with their teeth and cry, Peace. The bite is eating: those who feed them get well-being language. He that putteth not into their mouths they even prepare war against him. The message changes with the mouth's intake.
Therefore night, darkness, sunset, shame, and covered lips come upon them. Vision is withdrawn because speech has been priced, not because ordinary uncertainty or illness is a curse. The unit does not condemn every stipend, shared meal, or institutional support. It condemns benefit-shaped comfort and sacralized hostility toward people who will not pay.
Micah claims power for a different work
But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression and to Israel his sin. Spirit, justice, and courage serve disclosure of wrong, not spectacle and not the prophet's unreviewable status.
A mistaken reading is not automatically false prophecy. Charisma without justice still fails the test this paragraph sets.
How this should shape us
Disclose incentives around religious speech. Prohibit spiritual threats when someone declines to give. Test claims of the Spirit by whether they tell the truth about harm and leave dissenters unpunished.
