Nehemiah 10:32–10:39
Temple commitments specify shared material support
A third of a shekel and a wood lot underwrite the house
They make ordinances to charge themselves yearly with the third part of a shekel for the service of the house of God: the shewbread, the continual offering, Sabbaths, new moons, set feasts, holy things, sin offerings to make atonement, and all the work of the house. They cast lots for the wood offering at appointed times by houses.
Firstfruits, firstborn, tithes, and a pledge not to forsake
Firstfruits of ground and trees, firstborn of sons and cattle, firstlings of herds and flocks, dough, offerings, and fruit of all trees, of wine, and of oil, go to the priests. Levites take the tithe in the cities of tillage; a priest of Aaron is with them; the Levites bring a tenth of the tithes to the house of God, to the chambers of the treasure house. The children of Israel and of Levi bring offerings to the vessels and ministering priests, porters, and singers. We will not forsake the house of our God.
Worship is funded by specified goods, rooms, personnel, and oversight. The closing pledge is sustained responsibility, not a blank check to any later institution.
How this should shape us
Define what is collected, why, who watches the storehouses, and how workers actually receive support. Guard households from pressure, and audit diversion.

Best judgment: The relation among the third-shekel levy, Pentateuchal taxes, and later practice is debated; exact modern equivalents are inappropriate.
