Nehemiah 11:25–11:36

Judahite and Benjaminite villages surround the center

Judah's towns and fields run south from Kirjath-arba

For the villages, with their fields: some of the children of Judah dwell at Kirjath-arba, Dibon, Jekabzeel, Jeshua, Moladah, Beth-phelet, Hazar-shual, Beer-sheba, Ziklag, Mekonah, En-rimmon, Zareah, Jarmuth, Zanoah, Adullam, Lachish, and Azekah, and in their villages. They dwell from Beer-sheba unto the valley of Hinnom.

Benjamin's towns and a Levitical split surround the center

The children of Benjamin dwell from Geba: Michmash, Aija, Bethel, Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah, Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim, Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat, Lod, and Ono, the valley of craftsmen. Of the Levites, certain divisions in Judah are joined to Benjamin.

The province is not identical with Jerusalem. Village, field, craft, and kinship networks hold up the restored center. This geography is not a map for modern borders or forced resettlement.

How this should shape us

Plan services and representation across towns and fields, not only in the capital. Treat rural land, travel, and labor as equal parts of the community's life.
