Sprinkled Water Restores after Death Contact

Ashes and running water become a sprinkled restoration

For the unclean person, ashes of the burned cow are put in a vessel with running water. A clean person dips hyssop, sprinkles the tent, the vessels, the people who were there, and the one who touched bone, slain body, dead, or grave. The sprinkling happens on the third day and the seventh. On the seventh day the person washes clothes, bathes, and is clean at evening.

The ashes stored in the previous unit now have a use. Restoration is scheduled, material, and administered by someone who is already clean. The water does not heal disease or erase grief. It returns a person to sanctuary access after death-contact, on the law's own timetable.

Refusal cuts off; the water also marks the one who handles it

Whoever is unclean and will not purify is cut off, because the sanctuary is defiled and the water of separation was not sprinkled. The text then adds a quieter rule: the one who sprinkles, and anyone who touches the water, is unclean until evening. Whatever the unclean person touches is unclean, and the next toucher is unclean until evening.

The medium that restores also contaminates the agent. Roles stay distinct: one person is being restored, another is serving, and contact still has a short aftereffect. Forced sprinkling, unsafe handling, and shaming a mourner whose sorrow outlasts the seventh evening are not this rite.
